Production of the Toyota BEV supplied by Suzuki is slated to begin at Suzuki’s plant in Gujarat, India in the spring of 2025
Suzuki and Toyota are set to deepen their collaboration by supplying a battery electric SUV model, developed by Suzuki to Toyota. Production of this new model is slated to begin at Suzuki’s plant in Gujarat, India in the spring of 2025. Since initiating their business partnership in 2016, Suzuki and Toyota have built a broad collaborative relationship.
Their joint efforts span various areas including vehicle production, mutual supply of models, and promoting the adoption of electrified vehicles. This collaboration has led to the launch of shared vehicles across Japan, India, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The latest development marks the first battery electric vehicle (BEV) in their OEM partnership.
Set for a global rollout, it has been confirmed to be designed exclusively as a BEV and thus it will be underpinned by a dedicated skateboard platform. Toyota says this agile SUV combines the responsive handling typical of a BEV with an impressive cruising range and a spacious, comfortable cabin and it will be equipped with an optional 4WD system.

It is said to provide outstanding drivability on rugged terrains. The BEV unit and platform for this model were co-developed by Suzuki, Toyota, and Daihatsu Motor Corporation. The BEV will take plenty of design inspiration from the Toyota Urban SUV concept, revealed last year. The five-seater will have several commonalities with the soon-launching Maruti Suzuki eVX and it will also be sold in India.
The eVX concept made its global debut at the 2023 Auto Expo before reaching the show floor of the Tokyo Motor Show the same year in a more refined manner. The production version will go on sale around January 2025 following its domestic premiere at the upcoming edition of the Auto Expo.

Speaking on the new development within the partnership, Toyota’s President, Koji Sato, said: “By leveraging the BEV unit and platform that we jointly developed, we will take a new step in our collaboration in the field of electrified vehicles. This will allow us to deliver various choices that contribute to a carbon-neutral society to customers worldwide. We would like to learn from each other’s strengths, compete, and further joint efforts based on a multi-pathway approach.”
